Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico – Nayarit is reaching new heights in tourism with the announcement of its first international flight to the newly expanded Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ). Starting July 16, Volaris will connect Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Tepic three times a week, marking a major leap in accessibility for travelers and locals alike.
This announcement comes on the heels of a successful test flight that landed in Tepic on April 16, signaling the airport’s readiness to receive international travelers. “This moment marks the beginning of a new era of opportunity,” said Juan Enrique Suárez del Real Tostado, Nayarit’s Minister of Tourism. “It will help us unlock the full potential of our coastline, mountains, and cultural treasures.”
Flights will operate Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with departures from LAX at 11:37 AM and arrivals in Tepic at 2:27 PM. Return flights will leave TPQ at 6:50 PM, landing in Los Angeles at 9:48 PM. The airport is equipped with modern immigration services, including digital entry procedures that eliminate long lines and streamline arrivals.

This new route not only supports growing international interest in Riviera Nayarit – it also strengthens ties with the large Nayarit community living in Southern California. The region has already made its mark in Los Angeles; in 2023, it became the official travel destination of the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport is being transformed into a world-class facility with capacity for up to 20 million passengers per year. This major upgrade will help spread tourism across the entire state – from Sayulita and San Pancho on the coast to the magical mountain towns of the Sierra Madre.
Travelers will soon find it even easier to explore. A new highway linking Tepic to Compostela will reduce travel time to just 30 minutes. From there, visitors can access beach destinations like Lo de Marcos, Rincón de Guayabitos, and San Blas, or luxury resorts like Conrad Punta Mita, One&Only Mandarina, and Costa Canuva – all within a little over an hour from the airport.
Whether you’re drawn to the surfing charm of Sayulita, the laid-back elegance of Punta Mita, or the cultural richness of Huichol communities in the highlands, Nayarit offers something unforgettable. With the arrival of international flights, the gateway to adventure, beauty, and tradition is now wide open.
