No Cases of Coronavirus in Mexico

Mexico City – “It is highly probable that the coronavirus will eventually reach Mexico, along with many other countries,” Mexico’s Health Undersecretary Hugo López-Gatell Ramírez said during President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s daily news conference on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

“But if it doesn’t come here, that would be great,” he added.

To date, there have been 12 suspected cases in the country but, “No one in Mexico has tested positive for the coronavirus,” he said.

“Eleven of the suspected cases tested negative, and one person remains under observation,” the Health Undersecretary told reporters in Mexico City.

However, he reiterated that it’s highly likely the virus that has killed hundreds of people in China will make its way to Mexico eventually.

The health official said testing kits are being sent this week to health departments all over Mexico to ensure a quick response and containment.

Lopez Gatell said there are no restrictions on people flying to China from Mexico, but that all passengers arriving from China are being screened for symptoms.
