Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – From June 13–16, 2025, the 25th annual Puerto Vallarta International Film Festival (FICPV) will bring four days of cinema, creativity, and celebration to Banderas Bay. Organized by the University of Guadalajara’s Centro Universitario de la Costa (CUCosta), this much-loved event is a cultural highlight for Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding region.
What began in 1995 as a showcase for Mexican cinema has grown into the region’s most important film event. As an extension of the prestigious Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG), FICPV presents a carefully curated lineup of short films, documentaries, and feature-length premieres. Many of these screenings are free and open to the public, making it easy for everyone to take part in the magic of film.
Attendees can also enjoy a rich program of academic and creative activities. Workshops, panel discussions, and special sessions offer deeper insights into the filmmaking process, making the festival a valuable platform for aspiring directors, writers, and students.
The FICPV honors excellence in cinema through several prestigious awards. “The Golden Iguana,” the festival’s highest recognition, celebrates outstanding contributions to the film industry on both national and international levels. The Maguey Award highlights LGBTQ+ stories and social progress, while the “Rigo Mora Award” recognizes remarkable short films. Local filmmakers will compete in the “El Mar en Corto” contest, which awards cash prizes totaling $16,000 pesos.
With strong ties to the FICG, the festival also benefits from international partnerships with the Cork Film Festival, the Havana Film Festival, University College Cork in Ireland, and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry. These connections help bring a global perspective to Puerto Vallarta’s cinematic stage.
The FICPV isn’t just a film festival – it’s a place to learn, grow, and share. Whether you’re a student, a filmmaker, or just a movie lover, this event offers an exciting opportunity to connect through stories on screen.
