Puerto Vallarta Reports Record Tourism Growth During 2025

Puerto Vallarta, México – Even as global tourism faced challenges, Puerto Vallarta finished 2025 on a strong note, posting solid growth and setting a new visitor record. The destination welcomed 6,265,000 tourists during the year, topping the 6,211,000 recorded in 2024 and showing steady demand from both domestic and international travelers.

Most visitors came from within Mexico, making up 67.5% of total arrivals, while international tourism accounted for 32.5%. State tourism officials and the Tourism Trust credited this performance to ongoing promotion efforts and strategies aimed at keeping Puerto Vallarta competitive and appealing year-round.

Visitors stayed an average of more than three nights, contributing to an annual hotel occupancy rate of nearly 70%. To keep up with this rising demand, the metropolitan area expanded its infrastructure by adding 1,706 new hotel rooms, a move that signals strong confidence for future tourism investment.

Tourism continued to play a major role in the local economy, generating nearly 41 billion pesos (about $2.3 million USD) in 2025. Although international travelers made up a smaller percentage of the total headcount, they contributed $24,167 million pesos to the economy, while domestic tourism brought in $16,757 million pesos. This financial influx supports a wide range of local businesses and services, further strengthening the community’s economic foundation.

Puerto Vallarta International Airport also posted gains, serving 6,947,700 passengers in 2025, up from 6,803,500 the previous year. This growth was supported by new air routes, including flights operated by Porter and Frontier Airlines, which expanded connectivity to the destination.

The maritime sector has shown similar progress, with the port hosting 171 international cruise ships over the past year. This increase from 167 ships in 2024 reflects an increased interest from cruise lines in including Puerto Vallarta on their itineraries.

According to Fidetur, these results underscore the confidence airlines and cruise operators place in Puerto Vallarta, which successfully blends high-quality services with diverse natural attractions that appeal to both national and international travelers.
