Puerto Vallarta Runs for Women’s Equality March 8

Puerto Vallarta, México – On March 8, Puerto Vallarta will take to the streets in a united call for a life free of violence against women. The 5K “8M for Equality” fun run, organized by the Municipal Women’s Institute (IMM), invites women, families, and allies to mark International Women’s Day with action and solidarity.

Led by IMM director Sarahy Hernández and supported by the municipal government headed by Mayor Luis Munguía, the race highlights the ongoing effort to ensure women can live safely, free from violence, and with equal opportunities. The event forms part of the initiatives promoted during el Año de la Mujer 2026 (Women’s Year 2026), focused on strengthening women’s safety, empowerment, and participation in public life.

The race begins at 7:30 am at the esplanade of the Estadio Agustín Flores Contreras. Participants will follow a 5-kilometer route along Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio, one of the city’s main thoroughfares. Because the race is designed to be inclusive, individuals of all fitness levels are encouraged to join, whether they prefer to maintain a competitive pace or enjoy a casual morning stroll with family and allies.

Hernández described the event as a symbolic act of awareness. She noted that each step represents the daily struggle of thousands of women demanding a life without violence, and each kilometer serves as a reminder that equality cannot wait. March 8, she said, is a day of remembrance, dignity, resistance, and hope for the future, reaffirming that equality is a fundamental right.

To ensure safety, the Civil Protection and Fire Department, led by engineer Misael López Muro, will implement a special operation. The race has been declared a cardioprotected event, with ambulances, hydration stations, mobile units, and on-foot personnel positioned throughout the course. This infrastructure ensures that the focus remains on the community spirit and the message of dignity and resistance that the day represents.

Open to all and free of charge, the 5K allows participants to walk, jog, or run at their own pace. Registration is available from a QR code or by contacting organizers via WhatsApp at 322-294-6806 or by phone at 322-596-1174 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.

With every stride, Puerto Vallarta will send a clear message: equality is not optional, and a life free from violence is a right for every woman.
