Purr Project Vallarta March News

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – PuRR Project, Puerto Vallarta’s non-profit, no-kill feline shelter, has planned some Purr-fectly wonderful events for the end of their fundraising season, which continues this month with Shelter Tours and Kitty BINGO, and ends in April with the Spring Garage Sale.

Upcoming Events
Donations and fundraising events are the only source of financing to provide food, shelter and veterinary care for the 200+ cats and kittens at PuRR Project, so make plans now to come out and enjoy these PuRR-fectly wonderful events.

KITTY BINGO: Only TWO BINGOS left for this season: March 11 and 25th at Nacho Daddy. Cards go on sale at 3:30 and games start at 4:00 pm. It’s still only $100 pesos to play and we have collected an assortment of great prizes to win when you shout “MEOW!” Plus we have an exciting 50/50 Raffle!

SHELTER TOURS: Only THREE left for this season: March 4 and 18 and April 1st. We pick you up in an air-conditioned van at one of three convenient spots. You’ll enjoy seeing some of rural Nayarit on the drive out to the shelter and the chance to enjoy great tacos afterwards in the charming town square in San Jose. But the HIGHLIGHT, of course, is the chance to get up close and personal with the 200+ PuRR cats and kittens! You can’t have this much fun anywhere for $400 pesos, so make plans now to enjoy an unforgettable experience. Everything you need to know about visiting the PuRR Project Shelter and how to make your reservation is on our website. Spaces are limited on the van so don’t wait!

SPRING GARAGE SALE, SATURDAY, MAY 9: This is our last opportunity to raise the money needed to keep the shelter funded during the long summer months. So start cleaning out your closet, garage, kitchen shelves, linen closet, office and wherever you store those things you haven’t used in ages. Someone will LOVE to have your un-used treasures! Marilyn Khan will be scheduling pick-up of larger items in April, or you can contact us for information on how to drop off your donations: donate(at)purrproject.com.

Adoption Update: Milo
This little tabby was brought to the PuRR Shelter by a volunteer in February of 2016 and named “Arlo.” Dra. Eva thought he was about three months old and he was soon tested, vaccinated, neutered and ready to go out for adoption at our Friday adoption booth at Plaza Marina.

It was there that Marsha Brezonick met him and quickly decided he was going to go home to Colorado with her! The next year, he was ‘Mr. April’ in the PuRR 2017 Calendar.

Last month, Marsha stopped by our booth at Daiquiri Dick’s to say “Hello” and give us an update. She says: “He is now named Milo and is big and fluffy and a happy kitty living in a very small town in Colorado of about 2,000 people. He spends time both inside and outside, but he prefers to be inside. He has a friend, Trixie, who he loves to play with and chase after. Milo likes to sleep on my bed and is
friendly to the other members of our family, which includes children, but he is definitely MY cat. He is loved and spoiled.”

The Shelter Clinic
The PuRR Clinic is normally used for taking care of new kittens, sick cats, giving baths, surgery for spay or neuter… and all the usual things you would do in a clinic. Occasionally though, Dra. Eva has to take time to handle emergencies involving our rescued rooster, Aurelio, or rescued dog, Rocky… or even a rescued giant green Iguana! Hopefully this beautiful fellow will make a full recovery soon.

Shelter Photographic Session
Last month we were contacted by Janet Holmes with a request for a special visit to spend time photographing our shelter. She specializes in making portraits of rescued animals and, with four of their own, she and husband Miles have a particularly soft spot for cats! Since cats don’t “pose” it can be a difficult job, but Janet and Miles spent a whole morning roaming the shelter grounds and casitas with their cameras. Thank you for taking some of your precious vacation time to visit us and we can’t wait to see some of the results! You can check out her website at: https://www.janetholmesphoto.com/rescuedchickens

Occasionally people tell us that they’d like to remember our shelter with a bequest in their will. If you are among them, it is very important that you use the correct name when crafting a will. If the proceeds are to be in U.S. dollars, then they should go to PURR PROJECT USA, INC. Address: 113 Mountain Laurel Drive, Milton, DE 19968. The Federal Tax ID number for the 501c(3) status is: 45-5349146. (There are other “Purr Project” or “Project Purr” rescue groups in several states and it will be confusing if you only state “PURR PROJECT” in your will.) If the proceeds are to be in Mexican pesos, then PET HEAVEN A.C. is the official name of the Mexican non-profit here in Puerto Vallarta.
