Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit are gearing up for an unprecedented winter season as Canadian tourism is set to break records. Tourism authorities in both destinations are optimistic about an intense season, with flights from Canada witnessing a significant surge, marking an increase of up to 24% in available seats.
This is thanks in part to the increase in flight frequencies of Canadian airlines such as Transat, Westjet, Sunwing, and Air Canada. Flights from key Canadian cities such as Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, and Winnipeg are anticipated, contributing to a significant boost in hotel occupancy.
The combined efforts are projected to achieve, at the very least, a 75 percent average annual hotel occupancy rate in Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. Officials estimate that Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit will close the winter season with at least 75% average annual hotel occupancy. This is due to the increase in available rooms, with Puerto Vallarta having around 26,000 hotel rooms and Riviera Nayarit adding between 20,000 and 22,000 more rooms. This will bring the total number of rooms available to close to 48,000.
Canadian tourism holds a significant position as the second most crucial international market for Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit. Up until August of this year, the Puerto Vallarta International Airport had already welcomed a staggering 304,788 Canadian visitors, surpassing the entire annual total for 2022 by an impressive 2.15%.
Buoyed by the increase in flight frequencies and the surge in available rooms, officials express confidence that Canadian tourism will continue its upward trajectory throughout the winter season. This anticipated growth is poised to inject a welcome boost into the local economy, underscoring the pivotal role tourism plays as a major source of income for the region.
