Safety & Security: A Joint Effort for Vallarta & Bahía de Banderas

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Officials from Puerto Vallarta and the Municipality of Bahía de Banderas recently convened for the Interregional Security Roundtable, a collaborative effort to bolster security measures for both residents and tourists. The meeting emphasized coordinated action between all levels of government to combat crime, particularly extortion, which remains a concern in the region.

José Juan Velázquez Hernández, representing Puerto Vallarta Mayor Luis Munguía, reaffirmed the city’s commitment to public safety. He highlighted the city’s strong safety record, citing recent data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) which ranked Puerto Vallarta among beach destinations with the lowest perception of insecurity nationwide.

Velázquez Hernández also recognized the crucial role of federal and state agencies, including the Navy, the National Defense Secretariat, and the National Guard, in supporting local law enforcement. Their joint efforts with the Municipal Police ensure proactive crime prevention strategies are in place.

Bahía de Banderas Mayor Héctor Santana echoed this sentiment, praising the strong working relationship with Puerto Vallarta’s leadership, and emphasizing its crucial role in maintaining a safe environment for both communities in the metropolitan area.

The meeting specifically addressed the upcoming long weekend, coinciding with the anniversary of the Mexican Constitution. With a significant influx of tourists expected, particularly due to the newly opened highway from Guadalajara, authorities will implement enhanced security measures throughout the region.

These collaborative efforts aim to ensure that Puerto Vallarta and Bahía de Banderas remain safe and welcoming destinations for both residents and visitors. By prioritizing public safety and fostering strong inter-agency cooperation, officials are working to create a secure environment for all who live, work, and visit these beautiful coastal communities.
