Tepic, Nayarit – The Tepic-Compostela highway in Nayarit is making remarkable progress and is expected to be completed this year, according to Marco Antonio Figueroa, director of the Center of the Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications, and Transportation (SICT) in the state. This new 26-kilometer stretch of road promises to transform travel and tourism across the region.
Designed to streamline connectivity, the highway will reduce travel time between the state’s capital and southern coast to approximately 50 minutes, offering motorists a scenic journey through Nayarit’s picturesque countryside. It will provide direct access to popular destinations such as San Blas, renowned for its historical landmarks and charming town square; Sayulita, a surfer’s paradise with world-class waves; and Punta Mita, celebrated for its luxurious resorts and pristine, secluded beaches.
Beyond enhancing local travel, the Tepic-Compostela highway is expected to significantly increase tourist traffic to Puerto Vallarta and the broader northern Jalisco region. Similar to the impact of the Guadalajara highway, this new route will attract more visitors from across Mexico, encouraging road travel and regional exploration.
The highway will improve accessibility for travelers from northern Nayarit, Sinaloa, Durango, and Zacatecas, who often rely on the Mazatlán highway. It will also create a smoother connection for those coming from Torreón, Coahuila, via Tepic, opening new routes for tourism and commerce.
With an investment of 1.8 billion pesos funded through the National Infrastructure Fund (Fonadin), this project is a significant step toward boosting connectivity and economic development in the region.
As its completion draws near, the Tepic-Compostela highway is set to become a vital link, enhancing the travel experience and supporting the growth of local communities.
