Tepic-Riviera Nayarit Airport to Welcome International Flights

Tepic-Riviera Nayarit Airport to Welcome International Flights

Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico – International travel to Mexico is about to get a major boost with the addition of new flight routes to the newly expanded Tepic-Riviera Nayarit International Airport (TPQ). These direct connections will make it easier than ever for travelers to access one of Mexico’s most scenic coastal regions.

Starting July 16, Volaris will begin three weekly flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Tepic, improving travel options for both tourists and locals. This route sets the stage for a larger expansion in late 2025, when United Airlines and Air Canada launch new international services to Tepic as part of their winter schedules.

United Airlines is making history by becoming the first U.S. carrier to serve Tepic. Beginning December 20, 2025, United will offer once-weekly Saturday flights from Houston (IAH) on its United Express Embraer E-175. This marks Tepic as United’s 24th Mexican destination and follows the airline’s spring launch of service to Puerto Escondido (PXM).

Canada will also have a direct gateway to Nayarit, thanks to Air Canada’s new winter routes. As part of its “New Frontiers Strategy,” Air Canada will launch nonstop service from Vancouver to Tepic, offering Canadian travelers a more direct path to the Pacific coast.

The expanded air service opens the door to the Riviera Nayarit, a region known for its cultural richness, lush landscapes, and coastal beauty. Tepic, the capital of Nayarit, serves as a launching point to explore charming beach towns like Sayulita, San Pancho, and Punta Mita – and will soon be even more accessible thanks to a new highway linking Tepic to Puerto Vallarta. Once completed, the new highway will reduce travel times between Tepic, Nayarit, and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, from three and a half hours to just one hour and 25 minutes.

These new routes are expected to stimulate economic growth by supporting local tourism, creating jobs, and strengthening small businesses. For international visitors, they offer shorter travel times and the chance to experience the warmth and culture of Mexico’s Pacific coast.

As Tepic opens up to more international arrivals, the Riviera Nayarit region is poised to become a top winter destination for travelers seeking sun, culture, and adventure.
