Vallarta Cares Seeks Urgent Help to Continue Its Work

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Vallarta Cares, a community organization that has spent years helping vulnerable residents throughout the Banderas Bay region, is facing a financial crisis that threatens its ability to continue providing essential services. With donations declining, operating costs rising, and financial reserves exhausted, the organization is urgently asking the community for support.

Co-founded by Jimmy and Francie (Frankie) Plouff, Vallarta Cares began as a community food bank during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, it has grown into a broader support network providing meals, medical assistance, educational programs, and disaster relief to people in Puerto Vallarta, Cabo Corrientes, and Bahía de Banderas.

Today, that work is in jeopardy.

In an emotional appeal, Frankie Plouff described the exhaustion and personal sacrifices involved in keeping the organization running. After years of dedicating her time, energy, and resources to helping others, she acknowledged that Vallarta Cares can no longer continue without significant community support.

The financial situation has forced difficult decisions. According to Jimmy Plouff, declining donations have led to staffing reductions and furloughs, leaving just four people to handle work that would normally require approximately 20. The organization has also had to reduce its soup kitchen operations because it can no longer afford to provide meals at its previous capacity.

Vallarta Cares once maintained a financial reserve covering three to six months of expenses. That cushion is now gone, while rent, food, electricity, and other costs continue to climb. Despite years of efforts to secure local business support, relatively few have become regular financial donors.

Reopening the soup kitchen at its former capacity without adequate funding would mean operating at a deficit. Before expanding services again, the organization needs to rebuild its reserves and establish a more reliable source of income.

For Frankie Plouff, the greatest concern is not the personal toll but the people who depend on Vallarta Cares. Every donation represents someone’s trust and generosity, whether it is money, food, or essential supplies. The organization strives to provide more than basic necessities, offering dignity, hope, and opportunities to people facing difficult circumstances.

The Plouffs are now asking individuals, families, and businesses to help keep that mission alive. Becoming a monthly donor is especially valuable because recurring contributions provide more predictable income and help the organization plan for future expenses. Those unable to donate can still make a difference by sharing the appeal with potential supporters.

Vallarta Cares grew from a community coming together to help its neighbors. Now, it needs that same community to step forward once again.

Without additional financial support, programs that have helped countless people could be lost. With the right backing, Vallarta Cares can begin rebuilding its reserves and work toward restoring the services so many residents need.
