Puerto Vallarta Kids Invited to Enter ‘Mayor for a Day’ Contest

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are widely celebrated throughout the world, but Mexico is such an inclusive culture that children have their own day, too! Celebrated every year on April 30 El Día del Niño is always filled with activities, gifts and special events.

As part of this year’s Children’s Day celebrations, the Puerto Vallarta City Council, through the Municipal System for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents (SIPINNA), invites all kids 6 to 12 years of age to participate in the ‘Mayor for a Day’ contest.

The contest’s objective is to encourage the participation of minors in political activity and encourage them both in the democratic sphere and in their academic performance, to express their proposals for the strengthening of human values, family unity, respect and healthy coexistence between persons, in accordance with the provisions of the Law on the Rights of Children and Adolescents of the State of Jalisco and the Municipal Regulation for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco.

Children who wish to participate in this contest must write an open letter accompanied by a drawing that depicts what would they do for Puerto Vallarta if they could be Mayor for a day. The works will have to be delivered by April 20 in an envelope with personal data, as well as a letter of authorization from the father, mother or guardian, at the SIPINNA headquarters (Office of Institutional Development, Aldermen’s Room C, Municipal Palace), between the hours of 8 the morning to 4 in the afternoon.

All entries will be considered by a qualifying jury, whose members will take into account each child’s creativity and authenticity.

The first place winner, in addition to having the honor of being Mayor for a Day, will receive a tablet; second place will receive a tablet and an award, and the third place winner will take home a thousand pesos.
