Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Virtuoso flutist Klaus Liebetanz will be giving 2 classical concerts on Sunday, May 1 and Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Incanto, Insurgentes #109, Puerto Vallarta, located right next to the Cuale River and the newly opened bridge. Both performances will start at 2 pm. He will be accompanied by the talented and very popular pianist, Jean-Guy Comeau. Both musicians have been part of Incanto’s “Virtuosos de Camara” concert series.

After many years of amazing performances, these will be Klaus’ farewell concerts. He and his wife, artist Michele Savelle, will be moving to Spain to be near family. Klaus studied in Berlin and at the Paris Conservatory, where he was a protégé of Louis Moyse and his father, Marcel Moyse, one of the greatest flutists of the 20th century.

Liebetanz was a member of the orchestra of the Darmstadt State Opera, Orchestra for Europe, the Bendorf Chamber Orchestra, Germany, the Honolulu Symphony and other European and North American Orchestras. He works as session/studio musician, recording in-studio as well as at his home, for clients worldwide.

Recently in Puerto Vallarta he has been playing in a traditional folkloric Latin American ensemble, Tajin. Since Klaus’s arrival in Vallarta over 7 years ago, he has served as Principal Flutist in the Orquesta Sinfonica Vallarta (OSV) and has performed in churches and numerous venues around Banderas Bay.

Klaus’ distinguished credentials include having been flute faculty, Staatliche Musikschule, Koblenz, Germany, Kreismusikschule Bad Ems, Germany, University of Hawaii/Leeward College, Pearl City, Hawaii and Hilo, Hawaii, Bellevue College as well as Musicworks Northwest. Klaus’s main focus has been playing, recording and touring the U.S., Europe and Asia as a chamber musician with the Liebetanz-Kolb Duo and Duo Cantico, as well as various ensembles such as the former Turkish National Wind Quintet and several small string groups, among others. He has recorded for Eroica Classical Recordings, Present Sounds Recordings, Seattle, Albany Records and Burning Petals Recordings, United Kingdom and has appeared on KING-FM Seattle, the Northwest Public Radio Network, Hawaii Public Radio and Southwest German Radio Network.

Klaus’ program at Incanto will include works by J.S. Bach, Antonin Dvorak, Cesar Franck, Franz Doppler, and George Gershwin. It is sure to be one of the classical music highlights of the season, a rare and special event that serious music lovers will definitely want to attend.

Later in May at Incanto – Sunday, the 15th and 22nd – Klaus’ protégé Andrea Jupina, a flutist since childhood who has studied with Klaus for the past 6 years, will give 2 Flute Extravaganza performances, together with pianist Jean-Guy Comeau – a mix of classical gems, opera themes, Latin favorites, standards, and select pieces from Claude Bolling’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano. Stay tuned for additional details.

“Flutist in Paradise” Andrea has played with the Puerto Vallarta orchestra since 2005 and the Salty Paw Jazz Orchestra since its inception in 2016. She led a student flute ensemble concert at Incanto in 2018. Previously she played in the San Diego Jazz Flute Choir directed by Bradley Leighton, a “Top 100” flutist; as a student in the chamber orchestra at Antioch College; and at Sunday services at the Primera Iglesia Cristiana Baptist Church.

In Puerto Vallarta she has been seen playing at the Puerto Botanical Garden and for the Art Walk at Atelier2020. Andrea is often invited to sit in at various venues – Incanto, Cuates y Cuetes, Nacho Daddy, even playing rock with Sylvie and the Zippers, notably “Stairway to Heaven” – and at Di Vino Dante, Garbo’s, El Rio BBQ, Daiquiri Dick’s and elsewhere.
