Coprisjal: Vallarta Beaches Suitable For Recreational Use

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – According to the most recent study by the Commission for the Protection Against Sanitary Risks of Jalisco (Coprisjal), the beaches of Puerto Vallarta are suitable for recreational use.

The study, which was done prior to the current Christmas and New Year’s vacation period, analyzed ten beaches in Puerto Vallarta and Cabo Corrientes. All were within the permissible range of contaminants. However, Holi Beach was at the limit of the safety parameters, with 199 enterococci per 100 milliliters, with the limit being 200.

The accumulation of enterococci, which is nothing more than fecal matter, in seawater can cause those who enter to present gastrointestinal or respiratory problems, skin or eye infections, among other ailments.

The rest of the beaches: Mismaloya, Gemelas, Los Muertos, Cuale, Las Palmas and Camarones de Vallarta, as well as Yelapa, Quimixto, Las Ánimas and Boca de Tomatlán, present an average of 41 enterococci per 100 milliliters, well below that which marks the Official Mexican Standard.

The Jalisco Health Secretariat (SSJ) performs seawater sampling through the Clean Beaches Program throughout the year; however, prior to the holiday periods, more specific testing is carried out to guarantee that there are no health risks for those who spend the winter holidays in Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas.
