July News from Puerto Vallarta’s PuRR Project Shelter

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter just north of Puerto Vallarta that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

SHELTER UPDATE

The heat wave that settled over much of the United States and Mexico has been brutal with temperatures reaching as high at 115 F in many areas! It was difficult for humans and animals alike.

Thankfully, over time we have been able to add ceiling fans to our clinic and most of the casitas, which helped the kittens. The yard cats just had to try to find shady spots to rest in.

We took in 28 felines in June, mostly young ones, for a total of 67 kittens now at the shelter. We were grateful for 9 adoptions but need a LOT more!! Remember that we take kittens to Petco every Saturday and Sunday where you can meet them in a nice air-conditioned Adoption Center.

FEATURED FELINE: QUINCY

With his long gray & white hair and pale green eyes, Quincy is a very handsome fellow! He is also a very lucky one as he was rescued from a bad home situation. Good medical care and three months of good food at PuRR have made a huge difference! This sweet kitty is so ready for a loving Forever Home. If you are interested in meeting Quincy or any of our teenagers, contact Linda at adopt(at)purrproject.com.

DONATIONS

Once again we had an amazing nine-year old who wanted to donate to the shelter! We were contacted by Olivia Sprauer who said the family would soon be in Puerto Vallarta to celebrate her daughter Charlie’s ninth birthday. She was asking for toys for the PuRR kittens instead of birthday presents! So on June 15th, the whole family drove out to the shelter along with our volunteers where Charlie was able to present the toys and spend some time meeting the many kittens there.

Our shelter is supported solely by your donations! Check out our DONATE page to see ways you can show your support. Remember that PuRR Project USA, Inc has a 501(c)(3) non-profit status and tax receipts are available for donations deposited in the USA.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

For special donations last month we’d like to thank Richard Robertson, Sandy Beddis, and Paul McCullough & daughter Jacqueline (who also adopted a cat!). And as always, we are so grateful to our regular donors: Gary Phillips, Sharon & Ken Rose, Catherine Googlia & Jim Shoemaker, Pat & Sandy Glenn, The McCullough Charitable Trust, Joanne Bryla, Trisha Aljoe, Timothy Oleno, Larry Sherwood, Heidi Benedict, Elizabeth Fuerherm, Robert Weed & Janice North.

IMPORTANT REMINDER
Our board members recently attended an “End of Life” seminar hosted by Pam Thompson… a subject no one likes to discuss but needs to! One of her points was to remember to take care of your fur babies when you make final arrangements. Who will be there when you can’t? It doesn’t have to be a legal document, even a verbal agreement and handshake will do. But it’s important to make clear who will take responsibility for them. Please, do it! There have been too many recent instances where good, caring people have failed to do this and the task of re-homing or caring for these beloved pets has landed on others.
