Puerto Vallarta Tourism Soars in First Half of 2024

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta’s tourism industry is experiencing a banner year, with positive growth in key areas during the first half of 2024.

Passenger arrivals by air have shown a promising 2.6% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This translates to an additional 96,500 passengers gracing the city’s skies. Notably, international arrivals have surged by a remarkable 7.8%, showcasing Puerto Vallarta’s continued appeal to a global audience.

The maritime terminal has also seen a significant boost, with 94 cruise ship arrivals injecting a welcome economic stimulus. These arrivals translate to over 285,000 cruise passengers enjoying Puerto Vallarta’s offerings.

Passenger bus traffic has kept pace with the overall growth, recording a 3% increase in runs compared to 2023. This translates to over 260,000 passengers utilizing this convenient and affordable transportation option.

Looking ahead, summer promises to be another fruitful season for Puerto Vallarta. The Jalisco Tourism Secretariat anticipates at least 3% growth, with average hotel occupancy reaching a healthy 78%, with weekends exceeding 80%.

Luis Villaseñor, Director of the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust, emphasizes the importance of promoting the destination nationally, with domestic tourism remaining a primary driver during the summer months. However, international markets are not neglected, and with Alaska Airlines’ new routes and increased frequencies from Phoenix by American Airlines, Puerto Vallarta is poised to welcome even more international visitors in the coming seasons.

Building upon the momentum of the first half, Puerto Vallarta is well on its way to another successful year, solidifying its position as a premier tourist destination.
