Puerto Vallarta Airport’s Terminal 2 Reaches 35% Completion

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Construction of Puerto Vallarta International Airport’s highly anticipated Terminal 2 is progressing steadily, reaching 35% completion. Director Cristian José Amador Lizardi expressed the project’s rapid pace, noting the visible progress to travelers passing by.

“We’re witnessing firsthand the growth and development of this remarkable project,” he said, highlighting that the terminal is expected to be fully operational in 2026.

The new terminal will boast a substantial footprint, spanning 74,936 square meters of buildings and an aircraft platform of 83,387 square meters. With five floors and eight contact points for aircraft, it will accommodate 4.5 million passengers annually.

One of the most exciting features of Terminal 2 is its commitment to sustainability. As the first Latin American terminal to achieve NET Zero certification, it is expected to reduce carbon emissions to zero within 7.5 years. This ambitious goal will be realized through strategies such as solar panels and efficient water management, reducing energy consumption by 40% and water usage by 35%.

As the current terminal serves 49 routes, including 13 domestic and 36 international, Terminal 2’s completion will significantly enhance Puerto Vallarta’s connectivity.

In addition to construction, new flight routes are on the horizon. Airlines like Alaska will begin service from four new destinations by next winter, and a weekly flight to Prague will commence in October. Lizardi remarked, “This speaks to the commitment and effort that is being made for this great destination.”

The Pacific Airport Group (GAP) has committed over 3.6 billion pesos in the current five-year period, aimed at increasing capacity and improving service for both passengers and airlines. This investment aligns with GAP’s vision to position Mexico as a global air travel hub while supporting the regional economy of Puerto Vallarta, further solidifying its role as a key tourism destination.
