Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Starting this July, travelers will have a new way to reach Puerto Vallarta, as Volaris introduces a direct flight from Morelia, Michoacán. Operating three times a week – on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays – the MLM-PVR-MLM route will use an Airbus A320, adding over 2,000 monthly seats to the destination.
This new route, part of Volaris’ expansion plan for 2025, strengthens the airline’s presence in Puerto Vallarta, bringing its total domestic routes to nine. With a flight time of just 1 hour and 8 minutes, this new route provides a convenient alternative for Michoacans who previously made the journey by land.
For visitors from Morelia, Puerto Vallarta offers sun-drenched beaches, a lively culinary scene, and a wealth of outdoor activities. At the same time, Vallarta residents and visitors now have an easier way to explore the cultural richness of Morelia, a city renowned for its well-preserved colonial architecture.

Morelia, the capital of Michoacán, is a historic treasure filled with grand Spanish colonial buildings made of pink stone. The city’s iconic cathedral, which took over a century to complete, features towering spires and an intricate interior, making it one of Mexico’s most stunning religious landmarks. Visitors can also admire the majestic aqueduct, a structure of dozens of arches stretching over a mile through the city.
Other must-see attractions include the Palacio de Gobierno, which houses murals depicting the history of Michoacán, and the Palacio Clavijero, an elegant building with a pink stone courtyard. The Colegio de San Nicolás de Hidalgo honors Mexico’s independence hero, Miguel Hidalgo, while Plaza del Carmen hosts cultural performances near the Museo de Arte Colonial.
Morelia is also home to several fascinating museums, such as Casa Museo de Morelos, the Museo del Estado, and the Museo Regional Michoacano, offering insights into the region’s deep history and artistic traditions.
With this new flight, travelers now have an easier way to experience the beauty and culture of both Puerto Vallarta and Morelia. Whether seeking a beachside retreat or a journey through Mexico’s colonial past, the expanded connectivity opens exciting possibilities for all.
