Puerto Vallarta is beginning to feel the first signs of warmer weather as Semana Santa and Pascua (the Easter holidays) approach. According to meteorologist Víctor Manuel Cornejo López, temperatures in the region are gradually rising and could reach up to 33°C (91.4°F) by the end of Holy Week.
Although mornings remain cool and pleasant, daytime highs have been climbing, recently averaging between 27°C (80.6°F) and 28°C (82.4°F). Over the next few weeks, this warming trend is expected to continue as high-pressure systems settle over the southern part of the country, bringing more sunshine and heat to the Bay of Banderas region.
“This is typical for this time of year,” explained Cornejo López, advisor to the Bay Area’s Scientific Committee for Civil Protection. “As we move into the Easter holiday period, temperatures will likely exceed 30°C (86°F) and continue to rise in the following weeks.”
Visitors enjoying the beaches should also be aware of possible episodes of high waves. While most wave activity is expected to remain moderate within the bay – between 80 centimeters (2’7″) and 1.2 meters (3’11”) – stronger waves could develop in open waters. This is due to the movement of polar and subtropical jet streams, which can produce wave trains (a succession of waves occurring at periodic intervals) from storms off the coast of California.
Fortunately, Cornejo López noted that these wave trains usually pass parallel to the coast, but occasional shifts could bring larger waves into Banderas Bay. Local authorities will continue to monitor conditions to ensure beachgoers stay safe.
With sunny skies, rising temperatures, and gentle morning breezes, Puerto Vallarta is shaping up to offer a perfect setting for Semana Santa celebrations and outdoor fun.
