All Puerto Vallarta Beaches Declared Safe for Holy Week and Easter

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Good news for beach lovers planning a getaway to Puerto Vallarta this spring! The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) has announced that all local beaches are safe for swimming and recreational activities during the upcoming Holy Week and Easter holidays.

As part of their annual monitoring, COFEPRIS, in coordination with the Jalisco State Commission against Sanitary Risks (COPRISJAL), tested the water quality at ten popular beaches in Puerto Vallarta between March 18 and 26, 2025. The tests focused on measuring the levels of enterococci bacteria in seawater, following guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and Mexico’s Official Standards.

The results revealed that every beach analyzed in Puerto Vallarta met the stringent quality standards, posing no health risks to the public. This comprehensive clean bill of health offers reassurance to both local residents and the many tourists expected to visit during the upcoming Semana Santa and Pascua holidays.

“All of the beaches of the northern coast of Jalisco are suitable for recreation. This gives us peace of mind knowing that the conditions are right for welcoming tourists,” said José Antonio Muñoz Serrano, Commissioner of COPRISJAL.

This positive report comes after previous concerns about Oasis Beach, which was deemed unsuitable during the December 2024 monitoring. Fortunately, recent tests showed improved conditions, and Oasis Beach is now among those declared safe for visitors.

The detailed analysis of seawater quality in Puerto Vallarta and the southern coast of Banderas Bay confirmed that all sampled locations are well within the acceptable limits for enterococci. Specific readings included Yelapa Beach and Quimixto Beach at 18 NMP/100 mL, Las Animas Beach at 16, Mismaloya Beach at 15, Gemelas Beaches at 13, Los Muertos Beach at 12, Cuale Beach at 14, Oasis Beach and Las Palmas Beach at 10, and Camarones Beach at 17 NMP/100 mL.

COFEPRIS also reported that 98% of beaches throughout Mexico meet safety standards, ensuring that visitors nationwide can enjoy their beach vacations with confidence.

As visitors prepare to enjoy the beautiful shores of Puerto Vallarta, COFEPRIS encourages everyone to play their part in preserving these natural treasures by keeping the beaches clean. The agency reminds the public that maintaining the pristine condition of these recreational spaces is a shared responsibility.

With healthy waters and a welcoming atmosphere, Puerto Vallarta is ready to welcome visitors for a safe and memorable Semana Santa and Pascua 2025.
