Jalisco Boosts Tech Ties at Barcelona Supercomputing Center

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – As part of his European working tour, Pablo Lemus Navarro, Governor of Jalisco, visited the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) to explore strategic collaborations in artificial intelligence and semiconductor development.

Governor Lemus was joined by Claudia Pavlovich Arellano, Mexico’s Consul in Barcelona, and met with Mateo Valero, Director of the BSC, and Ulises Cortés, Coordinator of the High Performance Artificial Intelligence Group. Discussions focused on forming partnerships to boost innovation, data processing, and AI capabilities in Jalisco.

“We’re going to work together on advanced data processing, especially for AI and semiconductors,” said Governor Lemus. “Jalisco already leads the country in this sector, and we are ready to lead the world.”

The BSC is known for its cutting-edge infrastructure and support for European scientific research. During the visit, the governor toured the center’s facilities, including MareNostrum, Spain’s most iconic and powerful supercomputer.

Jalisco currently produces 70 percent of Mexico’s semiconductors and is home to more than 650 technology firms. The state hosts seven out of ten companies in the sector and has become a magnet for major international investments from companies such as Oracle, Foxconn, ASE Group, and Solidigm.

Consul Pavlovich emphasized the value of this growing partnership. “I believe this agreement will bring great benefits to both sides,” she said.

Governor Lemus’s visit will also include high-level meetings with Catalan officials, including Salvador Illa Roca, President of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and Jaume Collboni Cuadrado, Mayor of Barcelona.

With this new connection to one of Europe’s top research institutions, Jalisco continues to solidify its status as Mexico’s technology hub and a global player in the digital economy.
