Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – A week of special events honoring Puerto Vallarta’s senior citizens began with a lively sports morning, filled with friendly competition and enthusiastic participation. The festivities, organized by the Puerto Vallarta DIF System, kicked off on Monday with a morning of activities for the Casa de Día program.
More than 100 seniors, accompanied by family and friends, took part in exhibition runs and walks. The participants competed in different age categories, running 100 and 200 meters and even a fun baton event. The day started with a group warm-up led by the Municipal Sports Council to make sure everyone was ready to go.

DIF President Claudia Peña welcomed the participants with a heartfelt message. She shared her appreciation for the seniors’ energy and positive outlook. “Today, we start the week of activities with a great attitude, and what better way to keep our minds and bodies active than through these sports,” she said. Peña praised the seniors for being the “pillars of society,” sharing traditions and knowledge with love and wisdom.
The celebration continues throughout the week with a variety of events designed to honor the city’s older adults. One of the highlights will be the 2025-2026 Municipal Ambassador for Senior Citizens competition. This exciting event will be held on Thursday, August 28th, at Teatro Vallarta at 6:00 pm. Eight women from the senior groups will compete for the title. The DIF invites the public to come out and support the contestants.
