Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – AKRON Stadium, home of the Chivas and a future host for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, has taken a major step forward in fan safety by officially becoming a Cardio-Protected Space. This important distinction, supported by the Jalisco Government’s Emergency Medical Care System (SAMU), certifies the venue as a Cardiac Care Facility prepared for medical emergencies.
This achievement highlights the stadium’s strong commitment to the well-being of every person who walks through its doors. The designation was made official in a ceremony where Amaury Vergara, President of Chivas and Estadio Guadalajara, and Pablo Lemus, Governor of Jalisco, unveiled a plaque acknowledging the effort.
To meet the high standards set by the General Health Law of the State of Jalisco, the stadium has taken several crucial steps. They have installed Semi-Automatic External Defibrillators (SAEDs) in areas where large crowds gather, ensuring life-saving equipment is immediately accessible. Furthermore, stadium personnel have received specialized training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques, creating a prepared response team.

Amaury Vergara commented on the broader mission of this initiative. “Every action we take as a group has objectives such as inspiring Mexico and improving people’s quality of life,” he said. “This teamwork will make Guadalajara and the AKRON Stadium the best venues for the 2026 World Cup.”
Governor Pablo Lemus also praised the preparations, emphasizing that the focus goes beyond just equipment. “This is a stadium prepared for any emergency situation, not only in terms of equipment, but also in terms of the preparation of the people,” the Governor stated.
This certification as a Cardioprotected Space solidifies AKRON Stadium’s reputation not only as one of Latin America’s most modern sports venues but also as a facility that genuinely prioritizes comprehensive fan safety.
The distinction means the stadium is equipped to respond immediately and efficiently to any medical incident. It provides every fan with the peace of mind that their well-being is supported by first-class infrastructure and highly trained personnel. For the loyal Chivas fanbase and visitors alike, the stadium proudly guarantees an environment that actively protects the lives of those enjoying the game.
