Puerto Vallarta’s Pink Race 5K: Running for Health and Hope

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Get ready to lace up your running shoes, Puerto Vallarta! The city is preparing for a meaningful display of community spirit this October with the Pink Race 5K, an event dedicated to raising awareness for breast cancer prevention and early detection.

Organized by the Municipal Women’s Institute under the leadership of the Luis Munguía administration, the race promises a positive start to the day on Sunday, October 19th, at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Complex. This special gathering is a local observance of the International Day of the Fight Against Breast Cancer, emphasizing that prevention is key to saving lives.

According to Sarahy Hernández, director of the Municipal Women’s Institute, the event is open to everyone and completely free to enter. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 6:45 am for a warm-up session before the official start at 7:30 am.

To visually express solidarity, runners are asked to wear a pink or white t-shirt. For those with a competitive edge, the event offers generous cash prizes for the top three finishers:

  • First Place: 3,000 pesos
  • Second Place: 2,000 pesos
  • Third Place: 1,000 pesos

The Pink Race 5K is more than just a competition; it’s an opportunity for collective support. In addition to running, the community is invited to make voluntary donations of essential care items. These contributions will be channeled directly to organizations that aid women facing this illness every day.

Needed items include: gauze, saline solution, neutral soap, a soft sponge, fragrance-free thick cream, hot or cold compresses, lip balm, SPF 50+ sunscreen, alcohol-free deodorant, alcohol-free wipes, and pillboxes.

This event is a strong statement by the administration, which, through the Municipal Women’s Institute, affirms that battling breast cancer is a collective endeavor.
