Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – A wonderful tradition continues as the best anglers from Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding area prepare for the 18th Annual 2025 Playa Los Muertos Fishing Tournament. This friendly sport fishing event offers anglers an opportunity to challenge their skills in the beautiful waters of Banderas Bay.
The action is set for Saturday, November 8, 2025, launching from the iconic Los Muertos Beach pier. This year promises to be one of the best yet, with a generous prize purse and a lively community atmosphere.
Known for its welcoming atmosphere, this competition offers a fun and affordable alternative to larger professional tournaments. Entry costs just $6,500 pesos per boat, and any vessel type can participate, making it accessible to both seasoned anglers and first-time competitors.
This inclusive approach stays true to the tournament’s roots, which began in 2007 when a group of friends started a friendly contest to see who was the best fisherman. That first year saw 20 boats enter for just $50 pesos each – and an annual tradition was born!
Competition is fierce, however, as the tournament boasts over $450,000 pesos in total cash prizes for the largest catches across four categories: Dorado, Marlin, Tuna, and Pacific Crevalle Jack (known locally as Jurel Toro).
The tournament will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, starting at 7:00 am, and ending at 5:00 pm at Los Muertos Pier, which is where each boat’s catch will be weighed. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category of the tournament, as follows:
1st Dorado: $250,000 pesos
1st Marlin: $100,000 pesos
1st Tuna: $50,000 pesos
1st Pacific Crevalle Jack: $50,000 pesos
There will also be surprise gifts and a $500 peso Dorado Jackpot.
How to Participate
Teams interested in competing must register in person on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Deportes Gutierrez Rizo store at Aquiles Serdán 350 in the Puerto Vallarta Romantic Zone. Each boat must have at least one representative present for registration. Participants must bring a copy of their boat registration, valid sport fishing licenses for all anglers, and the registration fee in cash.
After the tournament, attendees can look forward to a festive beach party at Cuates y Cuetes, featuring live music, delicious food, and a spectacular fireworks display. Open to both participants and the general public, the atmosphere is expected to be full of excitement and camaraderie, making it a memorable experience for the entire community.
