Puerto Vallarta Civil Protection Strengthens Rescue Preparedness

Puerto Vallarta continues to enhance its emergency readiness as the Civil Protection and Fire Department completed significant national and international training programs this month, reinforcing the city’s role as a leader in public safety and rescue operations.

From November 10 to 14, department personnel participated in the First National Lifeguard and Aquatic Safety Certification in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Guerrero. Organized by the Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Playa El Palmar Lifeguard Association and endorsed by the Mexican Federation of Aquatic Rescue and Lifesaving, the event focused on improving technical skills, updating rescue knowledge, and unifying emergency protocols for aquatic situations across the country.

Puerto Vallarta was represented by Salvador Castillón González, head of the Aquatic Rescue Area, and first commander Mario Alberto Ramírez Ramírez, who served as assistant instructors on the certification’s teaching team. Three local lifeguards also participated as students, demonstrating the department’s commitment to continuous training and service excellence.

The Civil Protection and Fire Department expressed gratitude to Mayor Luis Munguía and department director Engineer Misael López Muro for supporting professional development and ensuring Puerto Vallarta’s presence at this national event. Their leadership has helped strengthen the city’s position in training, safety, and aquatic rescue.

This advancement follows another major initiative earlier this month, when firefighters received intensive international training through Operation 5280.

Instructors from Boulder and Denver, Colorado led a three-day program that strengthened skills in technical rescue, high-rise structure response, and heavy equipment operation, further improving the department’s emergency capabilities.

With the combined support of local authorities and international partners, Puerto Vallarta continues to prioritize both public safety and the ongoing preparation of the teams that protect the community.
