Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Mayor Luis Munguía González has extended an open invitation to all residents to participate in a public consultation, scheduled from November 21 to 23, which will determine whether the Malecón will be reopened to vehicular traffic or maintained as an exclusive pedestrian zone.
This three-day consultation aims to truly capture the public’s voice on the future accessibility and function of the Malecón. Recognized as a central gathering place for families, a vital tourist corridor, and a key commercial center, any decision regarding its rehabilitation will be guided by the direct participation of those who enjoy it daily.
The Mayor’s administration views this exercise as an unprecedented opportunity for collective creation, ensuring the Malecón becomes even more accessible and representative of the community’s wishes.
The vote will take place from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm each day. To ensure the process is transparent and trustworthy, the consultation will be fully endorsed and supervised by the Jalisco State Electoral Institute (IEPC Jalisco). This oversight guarantees that the results accurately reflect the will of the people.
To make participation accessible, electronic voting machines will be placed at key locations throughout the municipality, including Plaza de Armas, Lázaro Cárdenas Park, La Isla Shopping Plaza, Plaza del Pitillal, Las Palmas, Las Juntas, Mojoneras, and select schools and health centers.
This initiative encourages community involvement in shaping the destiny of Puerto Vallarta’s central landmark. By participating, residents are taking a significant step in defining a future for the Malecón that will serve the needs and preferences of all who call this beautiful city home.
The administration hopes the process will set a precedent for future public initiatives that prioritize resident input and community-focused planning.
