Puerto Vallarta, México – The Government of Puerto Vallarta has taken a clear step to strengthen environmental protection efforts at Los Arcos de Mismaloya. During a regular City Council session, the administration led by Luis Munguía approved a resolution calling on SEMARNAT to clarify the area’s legal standing and fast-track its designation as a Natural Protected Area (ANP).
This legislative action stems from a dedicated community effort, sparked by a citizen protest and petition filed on January 14th by the residents of Mismaloya. Residents raised concerns about preserving the area’s natural environment and maintaining public access to nearby beaches.
City officials stated that the resolution seeks to safeguard a delicate ecosystem that serves as a sanctuary for hundreds of marine and avian species. Mayor Munguía expressed strong confidence in the initiative, noting that the city’s positive relationship with federal authorities will be instrumental in finalizing the protective decree within the current administration’s term.
Beyond the biological benefits, the council’s endorsement reinforces a firm stance on land rights and public use. By partnering with the people of Mismaloya, the Luis Munguía administration has reiterated its support for those who defend their local territory and advocate for guaranteed free access to the beaches.
By formally appealing to federal environmental authorities, the municipal government underscored that conservation of natural resources and respect for citizens’ rights remain priorities for the current administration.
