Amado Nervo Bridge Moves Steadily Forward Toward 2026 Completion

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – Federal authorities report that work on the Amado Nervo Bridge is moving forward on schedule, marking an important step toward improving road connectivity between Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta.

The project, overseen by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) through its Nayarit delegation, will link the communities of San Vicente and Ixtapa and create a new direct crossing over the Ameca River.

A recent inspection confirmed that the structural piles crossing the river have been completed and poured, allowing construction on the Nayarit side to physically connect with work underway in the Verde Vallarta area of Jalisco. This connection represents a key technical achievement, as it unites both sides of the project and sets the stage for faster progress in the central span. In San Vicente, crews continue installing structural girders, ensuring steady advancement along the access sections.

The most visible progress remains in Banderas Bay, where construction began and where the project entered a new stage in mid-December 2025 with the installation of bearing beams. Engineers report that the bridge will be supported by 800 pilings in total, all of which are now nearing the final phase of installation. This groundwork is essential for carrying the weight and scale of the structure once the deck is fully assembled.

Although Nayarit leads in overall completion, construction in Puerto Vallarta is also advancing consistently. Ongoing piling installation and pouring on the Jalisco side are expected to accelerate the assembly of the bridge’s central section in the weeks ahead. If current conditions hold, the bridge is projected to be finished between late July and early August 2026.

Spanning approximately two kilometers, the Amado Nervo Bridge will include an 800-meter main section over the Ameca River and about 1,220 meters of access roads on both sides. With a width of 24 meters and six traffic lanes, three in each direction, the bridge is designed to handle significant vehicle flow.

Once completed, the Amado Nervo Bridge is expected to play a central role in easing daily travel between Bahía de Banderas and Puerto Vallarta. By reducing congestion and shortening commute times, the project is positioned to support regional mobility while contributing to long-term economic growth and tourism activity across the bay area.
