Puerto Vallarta is set to strengthen its public safety infrastructure after the City Council approved the allocation of more than 315 million pesos in federal funding for the 2026 fiscal year. The resources come from the Municipal Strengthening Fund (FORTAMUN-DF) and are designated to reinforce security operations and improve safety conditions throughout the municipality.
The approval was made by the City Council under the leadership of Mayor Luis Munguía. The agreement was presented by Councilman Felipe Aréchiga Gómez, president of the Permanent Commission on Public Safety and Municipal Transit, who outlined how the funds will be used to support and expand the institutional capacity of the Public Safety Department. In total, 315,457,369 pesos were authorized for this purpose.
By securing these funds early, the city aims to ensure that institutional capabilities remain steady and well-funded throughout the coming year.
Municipal officials explained that the funding will focus on modernizing the tools available to local officers. The budget covers the acquisition of new patrol vehicles, weapons, and updated communication systems to ensure seamless coordination during emergencies. Beyond hardware, a portion of the funds is dedicated to specialized training programs, ensuring that the police force is equipped with the latest tactical and legal knowledge required for modern community policing.
This comprehensive upgrade extends into the digital realm with investments in new surveillance technology. By integrating better tech and increasing the number of active units on the streets, the city expects a noticeable improvement in response times. The plan also includes support for social programs focused on preventing violence and reducing crime at the community level.
Ultimately, this financial commitment reflects a broader goal of making Puerto Vallarta safer. Through the combination of increased police presence and community-focused prevention, the municipal government intends to foster a sense of security that matches the city’s growth and international reputation.
