Puerto Vallarta International Airport began the year on a strong note, reporting solid passenger growth in January and reinforcing its role as one of Mexico’s busiest air terminals. Preliminary figures from Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) show a 2.6 percent increase in total passengers compared to January 2025.
During the month, the airport welcomed 731,700 travelers, up from 713,300 a year earlier. This performance placed Puerto Vallarta once again among GAP’s top-performing airports in terms of growth and overall passenger traffic.
Domestic travel continued to lead the increase. In January of 2026, 242,500 passengers arrived on national flights, marking a 5.7 percent rise compared to the same month last year. This sustained growth highlights the ongoing strength of the domestic market and increased connectivity within Mexico.
International travel also posted positive results. The Puerto Vallarta airport handled 489,200 international passengers, a 1.1 percent increase over January 2025. This gain follows several months of year-over-year declines in the international segment during the previous year, signaling renewed momentum.
Thanks to these combined results, Puerto Vallarta ranked second in passenger traffic among GAP’s 12 Mexican airports in January, surpassed only by Guadalajara, which recorded more than 1.6 million travelers.
On a national level, seat capacity increased by 3.0% compared to January 2025. However, average seat occupancy declined, with the load factor dropping from 83.9% to 79.7%. Despite this shift, Puerto Vallarta’s passenger growth reflects steady demand and a positive outlook for air travel to the destination as the year moves forward.
