City of Puerto Vallarta to Take Over Garbage Collection April 1

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, México – Beginning April 1, the municipal government of Puerto Vallarta will take direct responsibility for garbage collection and disposal across the city, marking a significant operational change aimed at maintaining dependable public services.

The transition follows the conclusion of the city’s contract with Red Ambiental, which has handled solid waste collection in the municipality. The company’s services will officially end on March 31, after which the City Council will assume full control of operations.

During a recent City Council session, officials approved a budget modification to allocate resources for renting garbage collection trucks. This measure is designed to strengthen collection capacity across neighborhoods and prevent disruptions during the transition period.

Municipal leaders noted that recent service interruptions created an urgent need to implement emergency actions to avoid the accumulation of garbage on public streets. By securing rental units, authorities aim to provide an immediate response to residents’ needs while establishing a more stable long-term plan for managing solid waste.

Mayor Luis Munguía confirmed the transition during a Thursday morning press conference. He explained that the municipal government is taking proactive steps to ensure uninterrupted service and protect public health as the city shifts to a new operational model.

Officials emphasized that the goal of the change is to guarantee continuity and efficiency in waste collection while a more permanent and sustainable system is developed. Residents can expect ongoing service as the city works to normalize operations and maintain clean streets throughout the municipality.
