Puerto Vallarta, México – Visitors seeking to uncover the authentic soul of Puerto Vallarta can now participate in complimentary guided tours that reveal the storied past of the city’s Historic Center. Supported by the administration of Mayor Luis Munguía and promoted by the city’s Directorate of Economic Development and Tourism, the program encourages travelers to step beyond the beach and into the heart of the Historic Center.
The free tours are offered several times each week to accommodate a variety of schedules. Departures take place every Tuesday and Wednesday at 9:00 am and 12:00 pm, with an additional session available Saturdays at 9:00 am.
Participants are asked to arrive 10 minutes early at the Municipal Tourism Administration offices, located on the main square across from the iconic Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where a brief registration is completed before the approximately two-hour walk begins.
Led by knowledgeable guides, the tours showcase many of the city’s most meaningful landmarks and historic sites. Among the highlights is the Matamoros Lighthouse, which offers insight into the region’s maritime heritage, along with the celebrated Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe, known for its distinctive architecture and lasting importance to the community.
According to tourism director Alejandra Cornejo, the walks are designed to highlight the buildings and notable figures that shaped the city’s development, while also sharing local stories that visitors may not find in traditional guidebooks.
By blending history with a relaxed walking pace, the tours create an engaging way for guests to deepen their understanding of the city’s past. Participants gain insight into how Puerto Vallarta evolved from a modest coastal settlement into an internationally recognized destination known for its culture and charm.
Offered year-round, the guided walks serve as an enriching addition to the traditional beach vacation. They provide visitors with a greater appreciation for the landmarks, traditions, and community spirit that continue to define the city, leaving travelers with lasting memories that extend well beyond the shoreline.
