Puerto Vallarta Marathon Returns for Seventh Edition on April 19

Puerto Vallarta, México – The seventh edition of the Puerto Vallarta Marathon is set to take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, inviting runners of all levels to take part in one of the region’s most anticipated sporting events. Organized with the endorsement of national and international athletic organizations, the event continues to strengthen Puerto Vallarta’s reputation as a leading destination for sports tourism.

The marathon will feature 4 race options designed for both competitive athletes and recreational runners: the full marathon (42.195 km), half marathon (21.097 km), 10K, and 5K fun runs. An accompanying expo, open to the public, will also be held as part of the weekend activities.

The races are scheduled to begin along the Puerto Vallarta Malecón, near Los Arcos, with the marathon and half marathon starting at 5:30 am, followed by the 10K and 5K recreational races at 5:45 am. Organizers note that the start and finish location may be adjusted if necessary.

Age categories for the marathon and half marathon include Open (18–39 years), Master (40–49 years), Master Plus (50–59 years), and Veteran (60 years and over). The 10K and 5K races are open to participants of all ages, with parents responsible for accompanying minors. Overall male and female winners will be recognized in the recreational races.

Registration remains open through April 18, 2026, or until the 3,000 available spots are filled. Participants may register online through the official marathon website or at designated locations in Puerto Vallarta, including the tartan track at the Agustín Flores Contreras Sports Complex (ask for Luigi) and select Los Chatos Bakery locations. On-site registration may also be available at the expo if spaces remain.

Entry fees are set at $900 MXN for the marathon and half marathon, with a discounted rate of $800 MXN for participants aged 60 and older. Registration for the 10K and 5K races is $600 MXN. Each registered runner will receive a race number, electronic timing chip, commemorative T-shirt and bag, finisher’s medal, and access to hydration stations and refreshments along the course and at the finish line.

Runner packets will be distributed at the Puerto Vallarta Marathon Expo on Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. The expo will be held at the Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center, where participants can also explore exhibits and gather race information.

The certified marathon course is recognized by World Athletics and qualifies runners for the Boston Marathon, making it an appealing challenge for competitive athletes seeking internationally recognized results.

The awards ceremony will take place on race day at 10:30 am, celebrating top finishers in each category. Overall winners in the marathon will receive prizes of $40,000 MXN for first place, $20,000 MXN for second, and $10,000 MXN for third in both men’s and women’s divisions. Half marathon and recreational race winners will also compete for cash prizes, with the total prize purse reaching $520,000 MXN.

Organizers encourage all participants to follow an appropriate training program and complete a medical checkup before race day. Medical support, including ambulance services, will be available along the route to assist runners if needed.

With thousands of participants expected from across Mexico and beyond, the Puerto Vallarta Marathon promises another exciting year of athletic achievement, community spirit, and scenic coastal views that showcase the destination’s appeal to visitors and residents alike.
