Vallarta’s Electric Transit Launch Hinges on Charging Stations

During a recent visit to Puerto Vallarta, Pablo Lemus Navarro reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to transforming public transportation through a new electromobility system designed to improve mobility, comfort, and sustainability across the city.

At the center of the project is an electric transit corridor that will operate along Avenida Francisco Medina Ascencio, one of the municipality’s busiest transportation routes. The initiative is intended to provide a more efficient travel experience for both residents and visitors while reducing the environmental impact of public transportation.

Governor Lemus explained that the first phase of the program includes seven fully electric buses equipped with modern technology, including onboard WiFi connectivity and climate control systems. The effort is being coordinated with Luis Munguía as part of a broader strategy to modernize transportation infrastructure ahead of upcoming international events and continued tourism growth.

The project also includes the construction of upgraded bus stops by the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP). These new stations are planned with shaded waiting areas, prepaid fare card recharge stations, and built-in connectivity features designed to make public transportation more convenient and comfortable for riders.

Electronic payment systems will allow passengers to pay fares efficiently, helping reduce boarding times and improve overall service flow. In addition, recharge stations will provide free WiFi access, offering an added benefit for commuters and tourists traveling throughout the city.

While enthusiasm for the project continues to grow, Governor Lemus noted that the official launch timeline depends largely on the completion of the electric charging infrastructure needed to support the buses.

“Everything depends on the electric vehicle charging stations,” Lemus said, emphasizing the importance of reliable energy supply systems for continuous operation of the new fleet. He added that the project is currently undergoing technical testing to ensure safe and efficient service once operations begin.

State officials view the electromobility initiative as part of a long-term strategy to modernize public transportation while supporting environmental sustainability. By investing in cleaner technology and updated infrastructure, Puerto Vallarta continues working toward a transportation system that improves daily mobility while reinforcing the city’s standing as one of Mexico’s leading tourist destinations.
