Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Mexico has already secured its place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32, but El Tri will look to finish the group stage in style when it faces the Czech Republic on Wednesday, June 24 at Mexico City Stadium.
After opening the tournament with a 2-0 victory over South Africa and a 1-0 win against South Korea, Mexico became the first nation to clinch a spot in the knockout stage and lock up first place in Group A. The team now has an opportunity to complete the group phase with a perfect record while maintaining an impressive defensive performance that has yet to allow a goal.
Regardless of Wednesday’s result, Mexico will return to Mexico City Stadium on June 30 for its Round of 32 match, where it will face a third-place finisher from Group C, E, F, H, or I.
The matchup also carries a touch of World Cup history. Mexico previously faced Czechoslovakia at the 1962 FIFA World Cup, earning a 3-1 victory in its final group-stage match. Wednesday’s contest marks Mexico’s first World Cup meeting with the Czech Republic since the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in the early 1990s.
The two nations most recently met in an international friendly in Hong Kong in February 2000, when the Czech Republic edged Mexico 2-1.
Fans in Puerto Vallarta will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of the tournament together at the Vibra Jalisco Fan Zone, where the match will be broadcast live beginning at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 24.
The fan zone offers much more than soccer. Visitors can enjoy immersive experiences inside the Domósfera Vallarta dome, family-friendly activities, and a food court featuring more than 40 vendors serving a variety of food and beverages.
Admission is free, and activities will be available from 10:00 am until midnight. Additional attractions include soccer-themed games and experiences, a children’s area, access to Domósfera Puerto Vallarta, four mixology bars, and on-site parking.
With a place in the knockout round already secured, Wednesday’s match gives Mexico an opportunity to build momentum and confidence as the quest for World Cup glory continues on home turf.
