Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – There’s a strong historical link between Mexico’s hacienda style and the American farmhouse trend. And there’s no better place to see this décor phenomenon come together than at Round Top Antiques Fair in Texas. The semi-annual event is the largest antique show in the US and draws a global mix of buyers in search of Americana memorabilia, European antiques and Colonial ranch house furnishings.
Although the spring show was cancelled last month, CRATE Interiors designers were luckily able to visit this inspiring décor mecca and shop Round Top retailers before the Stay in Place began. Here are three tips from the multinational design team to recreate this Insta-worthy look for your vacation home, rental property or primary residence:
1. First decide on a unifying color palette. Define and bring all the elements together with a similar color palette. With an eclectic look like farmhouse or hacienda décor, the diversity of elements from different sources and time periods will still look harmonious in each room when bound together by similar tones. Hues of whites and light grey provide a classic backdrop even when paired with colorful, eye-catching finds.
2. Mix patterns, textures and material. Don’t be afraid to blend and pair different patterns like stripes and checks. Mix flat and smooth fabrics with some texture and weave. It’s OK to combine disparate materials like wood, iron, straw or basketweave. After all, the farmhouse décor style evolved as an efficient and practical expression of local and natural elements.
3. A little goes a long way. This is one instance where you might bet on the horse but NOT buy the entire rancho! No need to throw everything into your décor plan. A little goes a long way and a few well-chosen elements from this popular Pinterest theme will spice up each room.
With so many resources available online and tools that enable desktop design from anywhere, it’s easy to complete a refurnishing project while you stay home and shelter in style. CRATE designers are all professionally trained and work from architectural floor plans to scale and measure furniture for each room, utilizing apps for color matching and materials selection.
“Our key vendors are still shipping, our warehouse is open and has adopted CDC compliant safety protocols for receiving. We now offer contactless curbside delivery or our signature White Glove Installs with an optional full sanitary cleaning after each service,” says Debra Stevenson. Clients have always appreciated project progress reports by photo or Facetime and now rely on that convenience even more while staying home.”
