Jalisco Ranked First Nationally in Patent Applications

According to the 2022 State Competitiveness Index, after five years of being in second place, for the first time the state of Jalisco is ranked first nationally in patent applications. In the 2020-2021 period, Jalisco registered 227 patents, Mexico City had 196 registrations and Nuevo León ranked 3rd with 100 patents.

AMLO Signs Decree to Prohibit the Sale of Vapers and E-cigarettes

On May 31, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed an official decree banning the 'circulation and marketing' of vapers and electronic cigarettes. In addition to the prohibition of vapers in all their forms, the decree emphasizes the prohibition of the sale of 'solutions and mixtures used in said systems'.

AMLO Wants to Ban Smoking on Beaches, Stadiums and Parks

The Mexican government is preparing a presidential decree to reform the General Law for Tobacco Control to include a ban on smoking in public places, such as beaches, parks and stadiums. AMLO has already signed a draft version of the decree, which the Health Ministry sent to the National Commission for Regulatory Improvement for review.

Monarch Butterfly Numbers in Mexico Rose 35% This Year

Mexican experts have said that 35% more monarch butterflies arrived this year to spend the winter in mountaintop forests, compared with the previous season. Biologists documented the presence of the species in 2.84 hectares (7 acres) in protected areas of Michoacan and the State of Mexico this year, up from the 2.1 hectares last year.

Unemployment Rate in Jalisco Falls to 2.4% in March

According to the State Institute of Statistical and Geographic Information, Jalisco's unemployment rate fell to 2.4% in the 1st quarter of 2022. The economically active population of men decreased by 26,000 workers; the number of women working increased by 30,000.

Mexico Requires All Expats to Get a Taxpayer Number by July 1

The 2022 Tax Reform requires all Mexican citizens and legal residents aged 18 or over to have a Registro Federal de Contribuyentes (Federal taxpayer registration, commonly referred to as an RFC), as of July 1, 2022. If you have a Temporary or Permanent resident card, or a CURP, you must get an RFC, whether or not you earn income in Mexico.

Jalisco Collects 14.2 Million Pesos in Airbnb Lodging Taxes

In February, the Jalisco state government began charging Airbnb a 3% lodging tax for vacation rentals. In the first month of collection, the entity collected 6.8 million pesos, while in March the figure increased to 7.4 million, money that according to the Secretary of Tourism will also serve to promote tourism in the state.

175 MDP to be Invested for PET Collection and Recycling in Jalisco

AMLO ‘Puts The Brakes’ on Vehicle Inspections in Mexico

On May 3, the Ministry of Economy published a new inspection requirement for light vehicles over four years old that was set to take effect in November. But, on Monday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador scrapped the planned inspection requirement, saying his government wouldn't “pick people's pockets” as its predecessors did.
