According to the 2022 State Competitiveness Index, after five years of being in second place, for the first time the state of Jalisco is ranked first nationally in patent applications. In the 2020-2021 period, Jalisco registered 227 patents, Mexico City had 196 registrations and Nuevo León ranked 3rd with 100 patents.
On May 31, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador signed an official decree banning the 'circulation and marketing' of vapers and electronic cigarettes. In addition to the prohibition of vapers in all their forms, the decree emphasizes the prohibition of the sale of 'solutions and mixtures used in said systems'.

The Mexican government is preparing a presidential decree to reform the General Law for Tobacco Control to include a ban on smoking in public places, such as beaches, parks and stadiums. In February, the Jalisco state government began charging Airbnb a 3% lodging tax for vacation rentals.
