Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Performer Christine Deaver has returned to Vallarta for the month of January. On Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6 pm, you can see her exciting new show, The Look of Love, showcasing the music of famed songwriter, Burt Bacharach. And yes, just for the record, Burt is alive and well at 94 and still performs his songs.
Christine is thrilling audiences this month at The Palm Cabaret with Bacharach pop tunes along with amusing background stories, audience participation, and always, first-rate vocals. With Christine Deaver, the music rolls effortlessly along and it is so clear why she is a true pro of Song, Stage and Comedy.
This week, I caught her show and really loved it! She opened with the classic, I Say A Little Prayer, and had every audience member’s total attention from the start. With fascinating stories as an insider in the music biz, Christine’s background tales about Burt Bacharach and the stars that sang his songs were amazing. From stories about his former lyricist to fabulous tidbits about the fabulous Dione Warwick, we just couldn’t get enough of all those stories. And with Christine’s sly sense of humor and mischief, the tales were perfectly told!
We enjoyed songs that we didn’t even realize Burt had written because we associated them with the stars that sang them. We heard Bacharach classics like, Wishin’ & Hopin’ made famous by Dusty Springfield, Close to You by the Carpenters, One Less Bell to Answer by the 5th Dimension, What’s New Pussy Cat by Tom Jones, Wives and Lovers by Jack Jones and the Dione Warwick classics, Do You Know the Way to San Jose, What Do You Get When You Fall in Love, and You’ll Never Get to Heaven, along with many others.
I highly recommend this show for an enjoyable early-evening performance. Christine Deaver is an experienced performer who does a wonderful job singing these classics, and telling the insider, background stories surrounding them. And you just have to hear the story of a naked Burt Bacharach in the shower! It was absolutely hilarious!
