Fondita de Marina Triumphs at Renace el Sabor Culinary Contest

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – Puerto Vallarta’s love for good food was on full display during the recent Renace el Sabor cooking competition, held at the Emiliano Zapata Municipal Market.

With sizzling pans, fresh local ingredients, and plenty of culinary flair, the event brought together market kitchens in a spirited showcase of flavor and tradition.

La Fondita de Marina, representing the Emiliano Zapata Market, took top honors with its mouthwatering costillas tatemadas (chargrilled ribs), which wowed the judges and earned the first-place prize. Second place went to La Cocina de Don Toño from the Río Cuale Market, impressing the panel with manitas de cerdo al aguachile (pig’s feet in aguachile sauce). Cocina de Marusso, also from Río Cuale, claimed third with its flavorful chile relleno de camarones (shrimp-stuffed poblano pepper).

The friendly competition was filled with energy as teams from the Emiliano Zapata, Río Cuale, and 5 de Diciembre markets came together to represent their kitchens. Colorful cheer squads, local dance performances, and curious tourists added to the festive mood.

Organized by the Subdirectorate of Municipal Markets under Mayor Luis Munguía’s administration, the event aimed to spotlight the culinary talent found in Vallarta’s traditional markets. At the award ceremony, Daniel Alarcón, head of the Municipal Markets Subdirectorate, praised the event’s success and reaffirmed the city’s commitment to strengthening the local economy and enhancing the quality of its public markets.

Renace el Sabor proved that tradition and creativity go hand in hand – and that Vallarta’s markets continue to be home to some of the city’s most delicious experiences.
