Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Guadalajara has been selected as the host city for the Michelin Guide Mexico 2026 awards ceremony, marking a major milestone for Jalisco’s growing international culinary reputation. The event is scheduled for May 20, 2026, and will celebrate the expansion of the prestigious guide into the states of Jalisco, Puebla, and Yucatán.
The official gala will feature the presentation of Michelin Stars and Bib Gourmand distinctions, recognizing restaurants that demonstrate exceptional quality, creativity, and consistency. For the first time, restaurants in Jalisco will be eligible for these internationally respected honors, including establishments in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area and Puerto Vallarta.
The inclusion of Jalisco in the Michelin Guide is expected to provide a strong boost to the state’s tourism and restaurant sectors, while increasing global attention on its culinary traditions and modern gastronomy. Known worldwide for its rigorous evaluation process, the Michelin Guide relies on anonymous inspectors who assess restaurants based on ingredient quality, technical skill, harmony of flavors, the chef’s personal expression, and consistency over time.
Jalisco’s selection reflects the strength and diversity of its cuisine, which combines deep-rooted traditions with innovation. Signature dishes such as torta ahogada, birria, and carne en su jugo, along with iconic beverages like tequila and raicilla, represent the region’s rich culinary identity.
The guide’s arrival also creates opportunities for more casual and traditional eateries to gain recognition through the Bib Gourmand distinction, which honors restaurants offering excellent food at accessible prices. This opens the door for cenadurías, taquerías, and other beloved local establishments to gain international visibility alongside fine dining restaurants.
State officials see the inclusion as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Jalisco’s position on the global culinary stage while encouraging investment, tourism, and economic development tied to gastronomy.
The recognition arrives at an important moment for the state, which has already designated 2027 as the Year of Gastronomy, reinforcing its commitment to preserving and promoting its culinary heritage while supporting the continued evolution of its restaurant scene.
