Jalisco 2nd Place in Job Creation in First Half of 2022

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – Jalisco drove national employment growth in the first half of 2022, creating 10.4% of the total number of new jobs in Mexico. Official statistics show that the Mexican economy added 448,560 formal jobs from January to June 2022 and 46,756 of those were in the western state.

This places Jalisco as the state as the second largest generator of formal employment in the country, according to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security.

Roberto Arechederra Pacheco, head of the Secretariat for Economic Development (SEDECO), highlighted the work of the entrepreneurs who generate formal employment in the entity and the closeness and collaboration that is maintained with them to ensure the conditions that allowed this growth in the state.

“It is important to say that, in the Ministry of Economic Development, we are providing support to the different companies in the state through Business Contact and other departments to be able to promote foreign trade and services, as well as industry and foreign direct investment. We are working transversally with the entire Economic Cabinet to be able to provide companies with talent and, above all, to cover the jobs that are so needed in the entity,” shared the Secretary of Economic Development.

During the month of June alone, 8,523 new jobs were created in Jalisco.

According to data from the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), the number of job openings Jalisco registered during June 2022 was the highest since 2000, and above the average job creation for that month over the last 10 years (2011-2021) which is 1,063 formal jobs.

Since the recovery period began, from August 2020 to June 2022, 154,120 formal jobs have been created in the State of Jalisco, putting it in second place at the national level, and contributing 9.8% of the 1,572,756 jobs generated in the country.
