Jalisco’s World Cup Success Inspires Future Tourism

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – The first weeks of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ have done more than fill stadiums in Jalisco – they have introduced millions of people around the world to the state’s culture, hospitality, and diverse destinations.

As the group stage concluded, Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro celebrated what he called a historic achievement, saying Jalisco stood out among the tournament’s 16 host cities thanks to its organization, welcoming spirit, and unforgettable experiences for visitors.

More than 185,000 fans attended the four World Cup matches at Guadalajara Stadium, while over 700,000 people enjoyed free concerts at the Minerva Roundabout featuring some of Mexico’s biggest musical stars, including Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Julión Álvarez, Alfredito Olivas, and Alex and Camila Fernández. State officials reported that all events were held safely and without major incidents.

According to the governor, international analyses recognized Guadalajara for its accessibility, cultural attractions, and the warmth shown by local residents to guests from around the world.

“Jalisco has undoubtedly been the best of the 16 host cities in the three countries hosting this World Cup, as reflected in analyses by various international agencies,” Lemus said. “These extraordinary days have been possible thanks to you, to the essence that characterizes us as people from Jalisco. We are kind, warm people who make those who visit us feel at home.”

The governor also thanked the thousands of public safety personnel, civil protection teams, volunteers, and public servants whose coordinated efforts helped ensure that the celebrations unfolded peacefully.

“The most important thing is that all of this happened in complete peace, order, and with great joy,” Lemus said. “I must acknowledge all the people of Jalisco and our international guests. We enjoyed great shows with no incidents.”

Throughout the past two weeks, Jalisco became the center of World Cup excitement, welcoming supporters from across the globe. Memorable scenes included Mexico’s appearance in Guadalajara, the enthusiastic arrival of Korean visitors, Colombian fans filling the Minerva Roundabout with yellow jerseys, Spain’s match against Uruguay, and the visit of King Felipe VI of Spain, who experienced a traditional Jalisco welcome.

The tournament also provided an international stage for the state’s arts and culture. One of the standout moments was a special performance by Plácido Domingo at the Santander Performing Arts Center. Meanwhile, Puerto Vallarta extended the celebration to Mexico’s Pacific coast, hosting concerts featuring Julieta Venegas, Los Auténticos Decadentes, and other popular artists.

For tourism officials, the World Cup has become an opportunity to showcase the state’s many attractions beyond soccer. Visitors experienced not only Guadalajara’s urban culture but also the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, the charm of Jalisco’s Magical Towns, regional cuisine, music, and traditions that define the destination.

“I say this without a doubt: we were the best host city and our people won the hearts of the entire world,” Lemus Navarro said. “That legacy will make many people want to come to Jalisco in the future.”

The celebration is far from over. The FIFA Fan Festival™ continues with live screenings of the tournament’s knockout matches, while the Vibra Jalisco Zona Fan program offers free entertainment, concerts, and cultural activities through July 19 in Zapopan, Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, Mazamitla, Tapalpa, Tequila, and Lagos de Moreno.

Governor Lemus encouraged residents and visitors to continue enjoying the World Cup experience in Guadalajara, including the remaining tournament broadcasts at the Minerva Roundabout. Consult the schedule on guadalajarafwc26.com.

“I know we have many challenges ahead and that there is still a long way to go to have the city and the state that we all long for,” he said. “Now that we have shown that we can be the best, I invite you to continue with that unity and passion to achieve the goals we set for ourselves, and to continue showing the world what it means to work and live the Jalisco way.”

With weeks of World Cup festivities still ahead, Jalisco continues welcoming visitors to experience the excitement of the tournament while discovering the culture, landscapes, and hospitality that make the state one of Mexico’s premier travel destinations.
