Although Mexico’s inspiring World Cup journey came to an end with a hard-fought 3-2 quarterfinal loss to England on Monday night, El Tri continues to score a major victory beyond the pitch. Adidas has confirmed that Mexico’s national team jersey is the company’s best-selling kit of the tournament, highlighting the extraordinary support of fans around the world.
Among the 14 national teams sponsored by Adidas at this summer’s World Cup, Mexico has generated the highest number of jersey orders, surpassing football powerhouses such as Spain, Argentina, Germany, Japan, Colombia, and Belgium. While Adidas has not released official sales figures, several reports estimate that more than three million Mexico jerseys have been sold since the tournament began last month.
The achievement reflects the unwavering passion of El Tri supporters, who packed stadiums in Mexico City and Guadalajara throughout the competition while millions more cheered from homes, sports bars, and public viewing events across the country.
According to the Mexican Football Federation, this year’s Adidas World Cup jersey has become the national team’s best-selling tournament kit ever. Demand for the iconic green home jersey was so strong that it sold out online and at retail stores in NYC before Mexico’s match against England.
Adidas introduced three versions of the Mexico kit ahead of the tournament: the traditional green home jersey, a white away design, and a black alternate jersey created to commemorate Mexico becoming the first country in history to host the FIFA World Cup three times. Mexico previously hosted the men’s tournament in 1970 and 1986 and welcomed the world again this year.
“We wanted to pay tribute to a nation that will welcome the world for the third time,” said Pablo Cavallaro, Senior Director of Brand Activation at Adidas Mexico, before the tournament began.
To launch the collection, Adidas organized a large fan celebration in Mexico City featuring football legends Marcelo, Maxi Rodríguez, Roberto Carlos, and Jürgen Klopp, along with live entertainment, fashion shows, jersey customization stations, interactive exhibits, and local food.
Ahead of the tournament, Adidas Mexico General Manager Jorge Dionne said the competition offered an opportunity to celebrate the connection football creates among fans both inside and outside the stadium. The company’s record-setting jersey sales suggest that supporters embraced that spirit, making Mexico’s World Cup kit one of the tournament’s biggest success stories.
