Purr Project Vallarta Feb 2021 News

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Here’s the latest news from Purr Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

ADOPTION UPDATE: DON DIEGO

In February of 2011, I wrote an article published in the PV Mirror, titled “Giorgio’s Journey”. It told the story of a beautiful Himalayan mix kitty who was adopted at the PuRR booth at Old Town Farmers’ Market by Tom Fitzgerald, renamed Don Diego, and traveled to Denver.

At the time Tom said “Diego must have chosen me, because I abandoned my normal engineer’s analytics and just went with my heart. I didn’t realize it at the time, but there was a huge hole in my heart & soul, and Diego has done wonders to fill that hole with love.” Don Diego went on to be our Calendar Cover Boy on the first PuRR Calendar in 2013!

Now, ten years later, Tom writes: “He [Don Diego] is still alive and well and an absolute joy to me. Still very playful and affectionate. He’s my best friend! That’s partially because he’s so awesome and also due to the pandemic keeping me hunkered down here endlessly. He LOVES chasing cat treats and sliding across the hardwood floor… we play this little game several times a day. And he loves having me chase him around the house. I want to thank you again for giving me Diego! He’s my boy, and I love him!”

WOW. We love stories like this.

KITTEN ADOPT-A-THON: FEBRUARY 5th, 6th & 7th

PetCo Puerto Vallarta will be the site of another Adoption Weekend just for PuRR kitties! About 15 of our sweetest kittens will arrive at the Adoption Center Friday around noon and be there through Sunday afternoon. This is your PuRR-fect chance to come meet these felines who are tested, vaccinated, sterilized and ready for their Forever Homes. Get there early to choose YOUR new best friend! MEOW!

SHELTER UPDATE

It was a quiet January with ONLY 22 new felines (HaHa) and 10 adoptions. Jose did a “cat census” and we have 172 adult cats in the gardens and 45 cats and kittens in casitas plus 7 kittens in fosters. Only one mini-disaster when the ancient well pump quit functioning for a couple of days. We offer you a few photos to enjoy from days at the ranch in January.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

There are so many people to thank for making January a hopeful start to the new year! Generous donations through PayPal on our website, checks directly to PURR PROJECT USA, INC in Delaware or pesos direct to us in Vallarta have all been put to good use. The volunteers and felines wish to thank: Beverly Cairns, Karen Miller, Malka Sekey & Steve Oseas, Lee & Heidi Mathias, Trisha Aljoe, Ken Church, Pat Brumfield & sister May Serna, Judy Carlsen, Thomas Bleuer, Lisa Mechele, Joyce & Greg Norquist, Gary Phillips, Carol & Charlie McCullough and Hilde Burney. For Virtual Adoptions, thanks go to: Monica Pencz, Carrie Slag and Diane Harney!
