Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – SEAPAL Vallarta has announced a major drainage operation on its main distribution pipelines, set to take place overnight on Wednesday, December 3, and into the early afternoon of Thursday, December 4. The utility will perform the work at night to reduce disruption for residents, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining clean, reliable water service.
The procedure is expected to temporarily reduce water pressure or cause brief outages in more than 60 neighborhoods across Puerto Vallarta’s northern sector.
Areas that may be affected include Las Juntas, Ixtapa, Las Mojoneras, the hotel zone, communities near the airport, Versalles, Los Sauces, and Fluvial Vallarta. Service is projected to normalize by 3:00 pm on Thursday.
According to SEAPAL, the drainage will remove naturally occurring iron and manganese that settle inside pipes over time. While these minerals are not harmful, their build-up can create cloudy water, making periodic maintenance essential.
Controlled water flows will also be visible in a canal at the corner of 16 de Septiembre and Politécnico Nacional. SEAPAL emphasizes that this is not waste water, but part of the planned system cleaning.
Residents are encouraged to store water ahead of time if possible and prepare for brief service changes. SEAPAL reiterated its ongoing effort to improve the city’s water infrastructure, noting that these preventative actions help keep service dependable for households across Vallarta.
