Tropicasa Getting Around in Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – One of the questions our clients frequently ask when buying a second home in Puerto Vallarta is if they will need a car to be able to conveniently enjoy living in Mexico. While the answer greatly depends on the neighborhood in which you choose to live, for the most part, you don’t really need to own a vehicle to get around town.

If you own a condo in Old Town, the Romantic Zone or Cinco de Diciembre, you can easily walk to almost everything in the downtown area.

Residents living in Marina Vallarta also find it to be a very walkable location with restaurants, gyms, spas and a golf club right outside their doorsteps.

Those who own property in Versalles, Fluvial or in the Hotel Zone are within walking distance to a wide variety of schools, grocery stores, restaurants and nightlife.

But, since you might not feel like walking everywhere, everyday, here are some of the most popular methods of transportation in Puerto Vallarta.

• Taxis are inexpensive and plentiful in Vallarta and you will find a taxi stand located every couple of blocks in the downtown area.

• The popular ride share app, Uber, now has formal legal authorization to operate in Puerto Vallarta. Users love the ease of the app, which can be linked to your credit card or PayPal account, and also allows for payment in cash.

The Puerto Vallarta public bus system was recently upgraded with a delivery of new, modern busses that are safe, clean, well-lit and very inexpensive to ride. The transit system reaches virtually every area in the region and you can identify the bus you need by reading its route written on the front window.

Not needing to own a car in Puerto Vallarta not only makes the cost of living more affordable but using public transportation and walking are not only more environmentally friendly options, but they are great ways to really get to know your new community in Mexico.
