Vallarta Bike Lane Progress Report

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico – With the aim of providing safe spaces for bicycles and the people who make use of this non-motorized means of transportation, the municipal government continues with the work of constructing the bike lane on Avenida Mexico, whose section between avenidas Politécnico Nacional and Francisco Medina Ascencio is ‘moving right along’.

Last week, Mayor Arturo Dávalos Peña and representatives of different cycling groups made a supervisory tour of the work in progress. Along the way, the Mayor pointed out the signage and road dividers that have been installed to protect cyclists as they traverse some of the busiest roads in Puerto Vallarta.

Dávalos Peña said that the municipal government is preparing a dissemination campaign so that motorists will respect cyclists and the spaces reserved for the exclusive use of bicycles, adding that there is a master plan that includes additional bicycle lanes and reinforcing existing ones, to create circuits that will help improve the mobility of Vallartans.

He thanked the cyclists for all the support and patience they have had so far in the gradual construction of safe spaces for their mobility, reiterating that he will continue working so that this group has more bicycle lanes, which will make Puerto Vallarta a more inclusive city.

For their part, the representatives of the cyclist groups presented the mayor with their proposal to create a bike path along Exiquio Corona street, since this road has excellent connectivity not only with El Pitillal but with different educational centers that are located on this road.

They added that they are also carrying out an informational campaign to promote respect for people who use bicycles as a means of transport.
