Puerto Vallarta rang in 2024 with a festive glow, seamlessly transitioning from a record-breaking holiday season to a vibrant new year fueled by both domestic and international tourism. With hotel occupancy averaging a staggering 95-100% throughout the Christmas and New Year’s period, the Mexican paradise is proving its irresistible allure.
“We reached out to hoteliers who informed us that between December 26 and January 1, the majority of hotels had no rooms available. It is indeed the destination of choice, as confirmed by the multitude of tourists who flocked to enjoy the festivities and ring in the new year,” stated Christian Preciado Cázares, Puerto Vallarta’s Municipal Tourism Director.
This momentum isn’t solely propelled by holiday cheer. School vacations and escape from the harsh winter abroad are keeping the beaches buzzing and restaurants bustling. Even after a slight dip in the first week of January, hotels were reporting a robust 85% occupancy as of January 2nd. “Expect numbers to shoot back above 90% soon,” Cázares predicts, a familiar pattern for the bustling resort town.
Cázares also celebrated the city’s success in the international cruise tourism segment, citing the arrival of over 540 thousand passengers in 2023 – an increase from the previous year. Moreover, the new year commenced on a positive note with the first double arrival of cruise ships recorded on January 2, drawing large numbers of passengers to explore the heart of Puerto Vallarta.
“With these accomplishments, Puerto Vallarta solidifies its position as a thriving destination, garnering attention both nationally and internationally. The city’s appeal, coupled with its reputation as one of the safest in Mexico, continues to attract families seeking memorable experiences,” concluded Cázares.
