January 2022 News from PuRR Project Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The latest news from PuRR Project, a non-profit, no-kill feline shelter located just north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, that provides homeless cats and kittens a recuperative stay with the ultimate goal of adopting them out to loving homes sterilized, vaccinated and disease free.

SHELTER 2021 Review

It was a tough year for the world and the shelter. We took in a record 229 kittens, 16 adults and 2 puppies! We were grateful for 83 adoptions at PetCo and 11 at the shelter or through Facebook. Unfortunately, respiratory infections in kittens caused us to lose two weekends at PetCo and then the Adoption Center closed two weeks for the holidays, so we lost all of December.

In May we were saddened by the loss of Marilyn Khan, our chief fundraising organizer. In her memory, your donations funded the new rain shelter/feeding station, “Marilyn’s Catnap Corner” and it has been put to good use with so many cats now living in the shelter yard.

Late August brought heavy rains and high winds that felled a huge tree and destroyed our transformer and fence. Fortunately, we had an emergency generator and were able to operate the pump so we had water during the two weeks with no electricity!

After almost two years, we were able to have the Garage/Yard Sale in December and it was a huge success, bringing in enough money to fund the shelter for almost two months. We look forward to the day when we can again resume our normal routines but in the meantime, we have a wonderful functioning shelter and are taking good care of the 300 felines that currently call it home. Happy 2022 to all of us!

VIRTUAL ADOPTION

The Virtual Adoption Program has been a wonderful source of donations this year! We currently have 41 sponsors who donate $120 a year for each cat they choose to “virtually” adopt for themselves or as a gift for a cat-loving family member or friend. If YOU would like to participate, just go to the ADOPT link on our website to view candidates.

GRACIAS! THANKS! MERCI! DANKE! ARIGATO!

Your generosity shared has made it possible to continue our mission and gives us hope for the coming years. All the kitties send their thanks for recent generous donations from Karen Miller, Dorothy Scrementi, Jill Brady, Kristen Derrickson-Boice, Erin Sellers and Janet Andrews (for Jo-Anne Nilsson Andrews) as well as our regular donors: Gary Phillips, Carol & Charlie McCullough, Trisha Aljoe, Sharon & Ken Rose, Joanne Bryla, Pat & Sandy Glenn, Heidi Benedict, Jalene Taylor, Robert Weed and Timothy Oleno. We are very grateful for every single contribution in this challenging time!

We are also grateful to Jose, his wife Hilda and his brother Carlos who have a lot of responsibility in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our many kitties! The six shelter children are still attending school virtually and all the family are healthy. Learn ways you can donate or support the shelter on our website.
